The Pine Mountain Project was born out of a local residents vision to restore natural vegetation in urban and rural areas. Inspired by Pine Mountain, Atascadero California.

Around February 2023, the concept took shape as an initiative to address ecological challenges and promote sustainability.

Through this website, we’ve created a platform that provides communities with the tools and knowledge to rejuvenate local ecosystems, supporting biodiversity and fostering environmental stewardship.

It’s an inspiring endeavor that reflects a commitment to making a positive impact on the planet.

 The first milestone of the Pine Mountain Project is focused on updating and enhancing our website, PineMountainProject.com.

This milestone, initiated on December 13, 2024, aims to improve user experience, expand resources, and better showcase our restoration efforts.

The update will include new features, progress tracking, and a streamlined design to support our mission of restoring natural vegetation.

While work is still in progress, this milestone marks an exciting step forward in building a platform that inspires and empowers community-driven ecological restoration.

Pine Mountain Project has entered a new phase focused on connecting the Atascadero community directly with Pine Mountain and building a living record of its landscape, landmarks, history, and changes over time.

The project is developing an interactive landmark map where visitors can discover unique locations around Pine Mountain and Stadium Park, visit them in person, take photographs, share stories, and contribute historical images from years past.

Our first documented landmarks include Wiley Overlook, Eagle’s Landing, and The Monolith, with additional locations to be discovered and documented as the project grows.

Community members will also be able to contribute old photographs, memories, and information about Pine Mountain. When the exact location of a historical photograph is unknown, the community can help identify where it may have been taken using landmarks, approximate locations, directions, and other clues.

These contributions will become part of Pine Mountain Through Time, a growing visual and historical record showing the mountain across generations.

Rather than beginning with a fundraising goal, our first milestones are intentionally simple:

• Document our first 5 landmarks
• Welcome our first 10 project members
• Collect our first 10 community photographs

This new direction brings us closer to the project’s long-term mission by first understanding and documenting the mountain, connecting people with it, and building a community that cares about its future.
