Let’s Work Together

About Pine Mountain Project

Pine Mountain Project is a community-driven effort based in Atascadero, California, focused on documenting, understanding, preserving, and supporting the future restoration of Pine Mountain’s natural landscape.

The project grew from decades of observing changes across Pine Mountain and the surrounding area, including the loss of mature trees, declining vegetation, erosion, and changes to the landscape over time. Those observations helped inspire a broader idea: before meaningful restoration can happen, we first need to better understand the mountain, document its history, and involve the community in preserving that record.

Today, Pine Mountain Project is beginning by identifying local landmarks, collecting current and historical photographs, recording stories and memories, and encouraging people to explore and document the mountain for themselves.

Through community participation, we hope to build a living archive of Pine Mountain that shows how the landscape has changed across generations. Historical photographs, personal stories, landmark documentation, and new images taken today can all become part of that record.

Our long-term mission is to support responsible preservation and restoration efforts that protect native vegetation, strengthen the health of the landscape, and help future generations continue to enjoy Pine Mountain.

This project is just beginning.

Explore the landmarks, share your photographs and memories, and help us document the story of Pine Mountain as we work together to protect its future.
